Gilda, Rita Hayworth, black satin gown From 1946's film noir masterpiece,Gilda, starring Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford. This gown was worn by Hayworth in the spectacular scene where she strips off her gloves (and more) while singing "Put the Blame on Marne." The gown was designed by legendary designer Jean Louis who retired here in 1993 with wife,Loretta Young. Rita Hayworth reportedly lived in a house on Camino Descanso in the Mesa neighborhood. The silk satin gown is fitted throughout the bodice to allow for Hayworth's sizzling movement during the song. "Gilda" Rita Hayworth, Jean Louis design. 1946. Black satin crepe. Strapless with bone stays inside bodice. Bodice foundation is a cotton with a sweetheart neckline. 52" from bodice to hem. Dress is built over cotton bodice, slit up the side employs selfidge edge on back seam, stitched closed on the front side. Zipper is longer on inside than exterior opening. Film version may have side zipper. Could be period copy. |
